I'm perched on the edge of my seat,
waiting for the therapist to say
something-anything- intelligible. . .
it's like waiting for the circus to
begin, I think,and that's when I
first notice how pink light drips
from the therapist's mouth like cotton
candy as she says, "we create
the universe as we go along."
She pauses for effect, or perhaps
to allow me to say something-
anything-intelligible, but I just
sit there waiting for her to tell me
how to create a habitable universe,
and that's when I hear the calliope
music, see the circus parading through
the sky. When I turn around again,
her face is coming off in globs like
library paste until all that
remains is a huge dark hole
where she once sat, and so I climb
over the bleachers to witness this
amazing attraction--a whirling
vortex where once a therapist existed!
I'm sure she's trying to show me how
it's done, and so I listen carefully
for the sound of her voice, but
all I hear is the sticky shuffle of giant clown feet. |
