The Sawed Man by Marge Simon

“And by the power invested in me,” the Mayor paused for effect and, out of pity for William’s parents who he had known for years, leaned in against the large wooden wheel and reasoned with William one last time.

“Please boy, for all that’s holy, admit it and we shall bring the fire instead of this monstrous device.” The Mayor grimaced and shook his head as the boy chose silence.

William, who was no more than twenty three years, was splayed in front of the crowd like a starfish. Naked as the day he slid from his mother’s womb, his limbs were securely fastened to the four spokes within the human-sized wheel. Just before the mayor spoke again, William felt the huge two-man saw steadied for its job. The two men carefully placed the saw between the young man’s legs and planted their feet, ready for the job they had been hired for. William felt a couple of the saws teeth resting against his anus while others pecked at the tightened skin of his scrotum. He closed his eyes. The pressure on his anus was inviting and blood rushed to his penis, hardening it in a moment of pure pleasure.

“From our Lord God above. We the people and the church have recognized your pact with the devil. The admittance of Witchcraft is punishable by death, but your refusal to admit to such deeds has led us to carry out a most unfortunate alternative. May God have mercy on you soul if He sees fit.” The mayor gave the signal to the men on either end of the saw.
