He Wanted
by Stephanie Smith
He stood in my doorway last night
A crystalline figure
craving love and blood
I could only give him dust
and the sweaty sheets on my bed
the ugly thoughts inside my head
and the clock on the wall
melting into oblivion
He ate the world I gave him
but wanted something more:
the whole of what was given him
That over-used thing
The greatest illusion
that could ever be…
He wanted to live himself
cool poem — the first stanza especially has a nice rhythm.
