In Bloom

by Kristine Ong Muslim

On sewer walls, the gnarled fingers
grow into swollen tendrils that
resemble drooping flowers.

Shriveled butterflies gather on the
blackened nail beds like pixies
on petals. Soon, the heads will

emerge to turn into pollen,
the mutant bees will arrive,
and the garden will bloom.
