Sword and Sorcery

May 28th, 2007 by Niteblade

Wow, the submissions keep rolling in and they are impressive. Thank you so much everyone for sending me your stuff — even those stories that I’ve passed on, I’ve enjoyed reading.

We’ve got more than enough horror stories to fill the quota for issue 0 (though I’m still reading them so keep them coming), however there is still a distinct shortage of fantasy stories. I’m looking for sword and sorcery sort of stuff, if you’ve got it — please send it. Don’t forget that I’m more than happy to accept your reprints just make sure you let me know where it’s been published before.

Nonfiction and Art

May 23rd, 2007 by Niteblade

While I’ve been getting a lot of incredible fiction and poetry submissions, I haven’t seen a single nonfiction or art submission.  If you’ve got something squirreled away in a drawer somewhere send it this way.  I’m looking for a cover image that will stop people in their tracks and make them do a double take — and the nonfiction topic for this issue is overpopulation.

True Horror

May 17th, 2007 by Niteblade

Each issue of Niteblade is going to feature a nonfiction article about something scary or horrific. Below are the next four topics and their deadlines. Articles should be between 1,000 and 2,500 words (though the upper limit is flexible) and if you can find a way to end them on a ‘high’ note (ie: This is how you can help) all the better.

  • September 1, 2007: Overpopulation of the Planet/Population Growth. Deadline is August 1, 2007
  • December 1, 2007: Darfur. Deadline is November 1, 2007
  • March 1, 2008: True Crime. Deadline is February 1, 2008
  • June 1, 2008: Global Warming. Deadline is May 1, 2008

Please send submissions to rhonda@niteblade.com

Thank you.

ISSN

May 17th, 2007 by Niteblade

Niteblade’s ISSNs arrived in my inbox today — that’s exciting. That means we are one step closer to being ready to go. September 1st looked like a long way away when I first set it as a deadline, but now it seems to be looming closer and closer. I’m torn between stressing that I won’t have everything ready and being incredibly excited.

Please keep the submissions coming, I love reading them all.

Graphic Designer?

May 16th, 2007 by Niteblade

If I ever had any doubts, which I didn’t, about whether or not I had a future in graphic design they were put to rest today. I won’t even tell you how long it took me to get that logo to look how I wanted it to for this blog — and that’s after a friend of mine designed it for me in the first place.

This is where I’ll be posting news, updates and pitiful cries for submissions.

As of right now submissions are beginning to trickle in and they are awesome — even the ones I’ve had to pass on were very well written, I’m incredibly impressed with what I’ve seen so far. I’m hoping to release Issue 0 on September 1st, but that will depend on how quickly the pages fill up.
