Issue #4: The Gnome’s Spectacles

May 31st, 2008 by Niteblade

The newest issue of Niteblade is out. Issue #4: The Gnome’s Spectacles is going live right now…early. How’s that for a bit of awesomeness? And when it comes to awesomeness, let me tell you, this issue is chock-full of it.

I think the poetry is especially strong in this issue. In addition to the killer poem that was granted the cover this period there are pieces about the Wicked Witch of the West, death, space, aliens and an amazing prose poem. I know, I’ve really had issues with prose poetry in this past, so the fact I found one so good I agreed to publish it has to say something good about the piece, doesn’t it? The poems run the spectrum from funny to depressing and touch in on a load of other adjectives too.

Don’t think poetry is all this issue has going for it though. No way. There are some pretty amazing stories too. Sentient zombies, an incredibly evocative Asian fantasy story, psychological horror, an undead pig and the end of the world are just a few of the things we’ve got in this issue’s 13 stories. There is even one about a hockey player…let the Canadian editor jokes begin! ;)

Really, this issue is definitely one worth checking out — and perhaps best of all, it’s free.

Contributor’s Copies

May 31st, 2008 by Niteblade

The newest version of Niteblade officially goes live tomorrow morning, though truthfully, it’s more likely to happen tonight LOL The point, really, that I wanted to make, is that the contributor’s copies have all gone out via email. If you’ve got work upcoming in the June 2008 issue and you haven’t received your copy please let me know. The .pdf is quite big and I’m worried it may irritate some email servers :)

Authors Announcement List

May 15th, 2008 by Niteblade

As of about two minutes ago I’ve sent a request to every author published in Niteblade (or with work accepted for upcoming issues) to join an announcement list. Joining is completely voluntary. I expect to send out less than an email a month, I would actually guess more like one every three months or so. Really, I just want to have a list so I can just send one email when I need to contact all the authors involved in Niteblade.

For example, before too long the polls will be opening up for the public to vote on their favorite stories and poems from previous issues of Niteblade. The five pieces in each category receiving the highest number of votes will be included in the anthology. When I open up the polls I’d like to send an email to everyone with the URL so you can ask your friends to stop by and vote for you.

This list is not a discussion list, you can’t communicate with each other through it, I am the only one who can send email. Also, I will not sell, give, lend or otherwise abuse your email address or your trust.

If you have had work featured or upcoming in Niteblade and you didn’t receive an invitation and you want one, please drop me a line at rhonda at Niteblade.com and I will set you up.

Thank you.

The Dark Phantom Review

May 7th, 2008 by Niteblade

The Dark Phantom Review is a great little blog that does book reviews, author interviews and editor reviews. In addition, they also have articles and short fiction. It’s run by Mayra Calvani, who is a talented writer. Recently I was honored to be interviewed by The Dark Phantom Review, and the interview is live now.

Interview with Rhonda Parrish, Editor/Founder of Niteblade Magazine

Please check it out. I’d love to hear what you think, either here or on The Dark Phantom Review’s blog. Personally I think I need to work on my skills as an interviewee LoL It’s just one more thing to add to the list of skills this magazine has inspired/required me to develop :)
