Pencilled Mayhem
Thursday, December 4th, 2008In this installment of the Niteblade Art Blog, I want to subject all of you innocent art lovers out there to the pencilled mayhem of the fantasy artist Shane Lees. Shane often combines fantasy imagery with a bit of science-fiction to whisk viewers away to another place and time. He shows us dark and dangerous worlds in which cyborgs duke it out beneath strange moons, where doughty warriors stand guard beside weird idols and clash within castle halls.
Shane grew up in Tacoma, Washington. The art bug first bit him at the age of twelve, when he created his first poster-sized fantasy illustration. He earned a B.F.A. in Graphic Illustration from the Art Institute of Tacoma, Washington, and has won several art competitions. Among his various credits, he has been commissioned to illustrate gaming cards for the on-line roll playing game Dark Confrontation by Hand Made Games, and book covers for Dreamspinner Press.
Shane composes most of his drawings using nothing more than a plain old number two pencil. On occasion, he also uses a 9B and charcoal. Being the odd man out, “The Faceless” was drawn using pen instead of pencil. All of Shane’s art reflects his deep fondness for the fantasy and science-fiction genres. He loves to express his desire to look up in the sky and dream.
Don’t we all?
Shane’s bio, full list of credits and achievements, and on-line portfolio containing more examples of his artwork can be found here:
