Short Stories Full For December

September 3rd, 2008 by Niteblade

This is just a short note to let you know that all the short story slots for December’s issue have been filled, but there are plenty of spaces left for poetry. I’m still reading the fiction submissions in my inbox but now they are being considered for the March 2009 issue. If that’s too far into the future for you, feel free to drop me a line withdrawing your story, I promise not to hold it against you :)

In other news, I’m going to start doing book reviews and featuring some amazing artists here on the blog, so keep your eyes peeled for that and don’t forget to pick up your copy of Lost Innocence to read while you wait ;)

Slush Pile Progress

August 25th, 2008 by Niteblade

I fell a bit behind on my slush pile over the summer, and I apologise. However, I’ve been making progress through it lately and as of right this moment there are no pending poetry submissions and the oldest fiction submission is from July 20th. I intend to keep making progress but it may take me a little while yet to catch up as I want to give every piece a full read and the attention it deserves, please continue to be patient with me.

In the meantime, there are no entries for the contest to win a copy of Lost Innocence — none. What’s up with that? Enter now your odds look pretty good…unfortunately.

Anthology Closed To Submissions

July 16th, 2008 by Niteblade

I checked the date several times, I even asked my husband to be sure, and he assures me that July 15th has, indeed, passed this time. So now the Anthology is actually, officially, closed to submissions.

I am actually enroute home from vacation. Tomorrow I will be home and I’ll shut down the submission email address and update the submissions page to reflect the fact submissions are closed. Then I’ll start reading.

All decisions will be made and writers notified by the end of the month.

Good luck!

June Issue Filled

April 16th, 2008 by Niteblade

The June 2008 issue is now filled. That means if you haven’t heard back on a submission yet, it’s being considered for the December issue.

You know how every time there is a new issue I say it’s even better than the one before? Yeah. Again. The June 2008 issue is going to be amazing. Truly.

Submission Status

April 9th, 2008 by Niteblade

Anthology submissions are pouring in. So far I’ve resisted the urge to start reading them because I want to read them all at once and thus not bias my opinions based on my mood of the day, but it’s getting more and more difficult. Keep them coming though, resisting the temptation is good for my character…right?

The June 2008 issue is almost full and there are a good number of submissions still waiting for me to read. That means, with the September issue being the anthology, if you send me a submission for the e-zine, you are likely submitting for the December 2008 issue. That’s quite a ways away, so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware before they hit the send button on that email.

I’m not trying to discourage you from submitting (except in May when I’m closed to submissions) but I think it’s important to note there will be quite a bit of time between acceptance and publication for the next little bit. :)

NaNoWriMo

October 19th, 2007 by Niteblade

Niteblade is closing to fiction submissions for the month of November because I’m going to be doing NaNoWriMo which means I will not have time to give each submission the attention it deserves. I receive far less poetry submissions than fiction so I think I can keep up with them despite the insanity of writing a novel in a month, if I find that I can’t, I’ll let each submitter know individually that it may take a while to hear back from me.

In other news, all the fiction and poetry slots for the December issue are filled and I’m now placing pieces in for the March 2008 issue. There have still not been any non-fiction submissions (excluding book reviews), so we may just have another issue without one. I don’t think that will hurt the quality of the magazine at all, but it would be a shame.

Back and Caught Up

July 29th, 2007 by Niteblade

I’m back from vacation and have responded to all the short fiction and poetry submissions I received while I was away.  If you sent a poem or short story for consideration and have not heard back from me, please re-send.  If you’ve submitted a novel or a portion of a novel, please be patient while I read :)

September Fiction Submits Filled

June 25th, 2007 by Niteblade

While there are still some empty poetry slots in the September 1, 2007 issue of Niteblade, all of the fiction slots have been filled.  I owe that to the incredible response from wonderfully talented writers :)  Please keep the submissions coming, there are still lots of spaces for the December 2007 issue and every one after that.

I’m restricting the first issue to 13 stories, but if we have the same sort of reactions from readers as we’ve seen from writers that number could grow in coming issues.

Like I say, keep the submissions coming, especially poetry, there’s plenty of space left in the first issue for poems.

Whispers of Wickedness

June 6th, 2007 by Niteblade

Wow. I’ve just been going through the bios of those writers whose work will be showing up in Niteblade’s Issue 1 and a disproportionately high number of them found me through the forums at Whispers of Wickedness — in fact, the numbers are so biased that I thought it worth giving a shout out.

Whoever posted Niteblade’s URL there I thank you.

Sword and Sorcery

May 28th, 2007 by Niteblade

Wow, the submissions keep rolling in and they are impressive. Thank you so much everyone for sending me your stuff — even those stories that I’ve passed on, I’ve enjoyed reading.

We’ve got more than enough horror stories to fill the quota for issue 0 (though I’m still reading them so keep them coming), however there is still a distinct shortage of fantasy stories. I’m looking for sword and sorcery sort of stuff, if you’ve got it — please send it. Don’t forget that I’m more than happy to accept your reprints just make sure you let me know where it’s been published before.
