This may seem a bit odd, my posting about the newest issue from a different magazine, but it’s not, if you think about it. The small press need to stick together to succeed and I’m telling you, the latest issue, excuse me, the anthology of Tabard Inn is amazing.
Editor John Bruni has gone above and beyond in his story selections this time. This issue is massive and it’s filled with exquisitely written tales of questionable taste.
Check it out here. You’ll thank me later.

While I’d like to offer hearty congratulations to all the winners of Stokers this year I’m sending an extra big congrats to Marge Simon.
Marge Simon and co-writer Charlee Jacob won a Stoker this year for their book Vectors: A Week in the Death of a Planet. Yay! They tied for the award for Superior Achievement in Poetry with Linda Addison. *Does her best Kermit the Frog imitation* Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! You rock Marge ![]()

I’ve created a Fan Page for Niteblade on Facebook. If you’ve got a Facebook account and you’d like to network with some of the readers and writers of the magazine, you should check it out
I’ll be posting upcoming deadlines (like the one for the anthology) and release dates for new issues there as events, so you may also find it a handy way to keep track of them since Facebook will let you know when they are coming up.
The page is here. I hope to see lots of you there ![]()

In case you weren’t aware, Amazon is holding a novel contest. It’s called the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award and competition is fierce. It’s into the semi-finals now; 5,000 entries have been widdled down to 1,000 and now it’s the public’s turn to do some judging.
I highly recommend popping over to the ABNA page to take a look at all the rules, find out what you can win for offering your opinion on the semi-finalists, and start reviewing. That page has a link to all the categories novels fell into, including Science Fiction & Fantasy, so you could start there…or you could start here.
Cheap Meat by Ron Savage is a novel I think any Niteblade fan would enjoy — I don’t want to bias any opinions or anything, but go take a look, give a review and see if you can win some bling from Amazon.
Or don’t. I’ll love you either way :-p

It’s time for the Preditors and Editors Poll. If you head on over to the poll here you can vote for your favorite novel, author, story, magazine, bookstore, editor, etc. etc. Niteblade and I are nominated in a couple categories, and if you feel like voting for us, great. If not, great. Really, I’m good either way. However, I would ask that everyone take a moment of time to go to the Cover Art poll here and vote for Marge Simon’s cover for the December issue of Niteblade.
Marge is a wonderful woman and a very talented artist who does all the covers and most of the story illustrations for Niteblade magazine for far less money than she deserves. Please help me show my thanks and appreciation by voting for her. You’ll have to enter your email address to vote but it will not be sold, stolen or spammed — it’s just to avoid ballot stuffing.
Again, the URL is http://www.critters.org/predpoll/zineart.shtml . Unfortunately when I nominated Marge I screwed up the first time so her name appears twice. Please vote for the one where the link actually works
Thank you.

Despite what you may have read, we are open to submissions and have been since December 1st
I’m sure the locations that still have us listed as temporarily closed with update soon, but in the meantime, trust me, I’m reading submissions and responding to them — bring them on ![]()

I’m going on vacation between July 13th and 30th. My destination is a rather remote island which ensures that my internet access will be limited at best. What I’m trying to say is, if you submit anything or email me during those two weeks please be patient — I will get back to you within a day or two of getting back home.
Thank you, in advance, for your understanding.

After much thought and several book review requests from authors, I’ve decided to change the non-fiction portion of Niteblade. Rather than having a single non-fiction article based on a theme of my choice, each issue will have a book review. I’m aiming for reviews of two books per issue, actually, one ‘horror’ novel and one ‘fantasy’ novel. There is often a lot of overlap between the two genres so it’s possible that it will be difficult to tell which is which.
For the time being I am not accepting submissions of novel reviews, however, if you would like to be considered as a review writer just drop me a line at rhonda@niteblade.com with a sample book review and I’ll get back to you.
Thanks!
